Modern C++26 Field Guide
This booklet is intentionally practical. It is not a catalog of every paper accepted for C++26, and it is not a promotional tour of future promises. It focuses on features that have a real implementation path in mainstream toolchains today, then tells you how to compile, test, and decide whether to adopt them.
About this book
C++26 is especially important because it touches three layers at once: core language expressiveness, compile-time computation, and standard-library facilities for systems programming. Reflection, contracts, expansion statements, safer diagnostics, better constexpr capabilities, range and formatting improvements, standard debugging utilities, inplace storage, SIMD-adjacent facilities, mdspan improvements, and concurrency utilities all move the language toward stronger engineering control.
However, C++26 support is not uniform. GCC, Clang, MSVC, libstdc++, libc++, MSVC STL, and Apple Clang do not move at the same speed. Therefore this guide treats every feature as an engineering decision. A feature is only useful when you know the compiler, version, operating system target, build flags, library dependency, failure mode, and fallback strategy.
