Many C++ Libraries Stayed Complex is an eight-paper series examining a persistent problem in software engineering: powerful technology does not automatically produce accessible developer tools. The papers compare the rapid evolution of JavaScript frameworks—where complex capabilities were often hidden behind approachable APIs, ecosystems, and tooling—with C++ libraries that frequently expose more implementation complexity to users. The series explores abstraction, API design, documentation, dependency management, build systems, compatibility, performance, safety, and developer experience. It does not argue that JavaScript is superior to C++, but asks what C++ library designers can learn from the web ecosystem while preserving C++'s performance, control, portability, and low-level power.
